The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) has issued a Public Advisory regarding certain mainstream processed meat products found to have been contaminated with porcine (pork) or its derivatives. We would like to reiterate this advisory to the public, especially the Muslim community, to exercise caution and vigilance in choosing their food products.

In the Islamic faith, the consumption of halal products is of utmost importance. Halal refers to food, products, and services that are permissible according to Islamic law. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to ensure that what they eat or use is halal. Therefore, it is crucial to be mindful of the products we consume and to only choose those that are halal-certified.

As the human rights institution of the Bangsamoro, we recognize the importance of respecting one’s religion, including the consumption of halal food for Muslims. This is also enshrined in relevant human rights laws that protect the freedom of religion and belief of every individual.

Therefore, this is not only a matter of faith but also a matter of human rights, as every individual has the right to practice their religion freely, including the right to access halal food.

Moreover, it is the policy of the State to protect consumers and users of Halal products, processes, and services from unscrupulous and unfair agricultural, manufacturing, and trade practices. The State recognizes the importance of Halal products and services in promoting the welfare of the Muslim community. This is in line with Republic Act No. 10817 or the “Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act of 2016,” which aims to develop and promote the Philippine Halal industry and protect the rights of Muslim consumers.

In light of this, we urge everyone, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, to be vigilant and to always check the halal certification of the products they consume. We also encourage everyone to report any incidents of non-compliance to halal standards to the appropriate authorities.
