The Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cotabato Chapter recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) during the Welcome Toast and Testimonial Dinner of new lawyers held on June 14, 2023, at the Mall of Alnor in Cotabato City. The event was graced by Honorable Marvic Mario Victor F. Leonen, Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, along with several key officials from the judiciary and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The MOA seeks to enhance cooperation and coordination in various programs and activities aligned with the respective mandates of both organizations. Key areas of focus include the deputation of lawyers, provision of legal assistance, and human rights education.

Commissioner Archie U. Buaya, MPA, Officer-in-Charge Chairperson of BHRC, stressed the paramount importance of this collaboration in strengthening the programs and services dedicated to promoting and safeguarding human rights in the region.

By joining forces, the BHRC and IBP Cotabato Chapter aim to maximize their collective expertise and resources to better serve the Bangsamoro community’s legal needs. The collaboration is expected to result in greater access to legal representation and assistance, thereby empowering Bangsamoro individuals and communities in asserting their rights.
