The Bangsamoro Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee (RJJWC) is mandated to regularly monitor detention and rehabilitation facilities within the region to ensure the facilitiesโ€™ compliance with the standards provided by law, and make the necessary reports and recommendations to appropriate agencies and to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council, as well as to the Bangsamoro Government.

BHRC MagPO as represented by Special Investigator Aldahas Kanakan and Hassanal Ayob, along with the Bangsamoro RJJWC monitoring team, conducted series of detention facility monitoring and inspection of police stations and detention facilities operated by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Local Government Units (LGU) within the province of Maguindanao.

Among the facilities visited were the Sultan Mastura Municipal Police Station, Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station, South Upi Municipal Police Station, Upi Municipal Police Station and Upi Municipal Jail, Parang Municipal Police Station and Parang Municipal Jail, Datu Paglas Municipal Police Station, Northern Kabuntalan Municipal Police Station, Buluan Municipal Police Station, Montawal Municipal Police Station, and Pagalungan Municipal Police Station.

As part of its protection mandate under BAA No. 4, BHRC shall regularly conduct facility monitoring to ensure that government facilities are compliant with human rights standards.
