BHRC ENSURES RIGHTS OF BANGSAMORO PDLS, CONDUCTS DETENTION FACILITY MONITORING AT BJMP, DIGOS CITY
Digos City, Davao del Sur, May 26, 2023 – As part of the fourth leg of the ongoing weeklong activity entitled: “Human Rights Education, Detention Facility Monitoring, and Legal Mission Outside BARMM,” the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) conducted detention facility monitoring at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Digos City.
Led by the BHRC’s Protection Division, the mission was carried out in collaboration with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Region XI and BJMP, Digos City.
The BHRC’s detention facility monitoring aimed at assessing the conditions, treatment, and overall well-being of the inmates, especially the Bangsamoro PDLs, and verifying if the facility complied with the required international standards for the humane treatment of prisoners.
Through this initiative, the BHRC aimed to safeguard the protection of the rights of the Bangsamoro PDLs, ensuring that their treatment aligns with international standards and principles of human rights, and addressing any potential human rights concerns within the detention facility.
