BHRC CONDUCTS HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION, DETENTION FACILITY MONITORING, AND LEGAL ASSISTANCE AT THE AMAS PROVINCIAL DISTRICT JAIL, KIDAPAWAN CITY

Kidapawan City, May 27, 2023 – The Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) concluded its weeklong activity entitled: “Human Rights Education, Detention Facility Monitoring, and Legal Mission Outside BARMM” with the fifth and final leg held at the Amas Provincial District Jail in Kidapawan City.
In collaboration with various BARMM ministries, offices, national government agencies, and civil society organizations (CSOs), the BHRC conducted a joint jail visitation, providing comprehensive services to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), including the provision of hygiene kits and food packs.
During the visitation, the BHRC offered a range of crucial services to over one hundred (100) PDLs. Human rights education sessions were conducted by the BHRC’s Promotion Division to empower the PDLs with knowledge of their fundamental rights and responsibilities.
Simultaneously, the BHRC’s Protection Division also engaged in detention facility monitoring to ensure the humane treatment and conditions of PDLs within the jail. Additionally, the Commission also extended legal assistance to offer support to the legal concerns of the PDLs and provide guidance on their rights and remedies.
The BHRC’s visitation to the Amas Provincial District Jail marks the successful culmination of the weeklong activity outside BARMM, making a significant impact in raising awareness, monitoring detention facilities, and providing legal assistance to individuals outside the region, and demonstrating its commitment to upholding human rights standards even beyond the BARMM core territory.
